MORTY MOUSE GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!

So with the first of school starting, I've been reading all sorts of finger plays, stories and lessons about a "Mouse":
"Listen still as a quiet MOUSE"...
"If you give a MOUSE a cookie"...
"MOUSE paint", and best of all...
"Morty MOUSE likes to munch and munch"....I have to admit this year as I've been doing these lessons and stories I've had to cringe and shutter because MORTY MOUSE AND HIS FRIENDS HAVE BEEN AT MY HOUSE!!! and I'M HERE TO TELL YOU THAT MORTY MOUSE IS ANYTHING BUT CUTE!!

We do think we have the mouse problem taken care of...Bryan found yet another hole...over by our shed...by our air condition unit, where a mouse could get into our house by our bedroom...now that hole is filled and traps set everywhere...hopefully we our MOUSE FREE.  But we will certainly keep traps everywhere.

BACK TO SCHOOL!

Karissa is a Sophomore in HIGH SCHOOL this year!!! WOW, that is hard to believe.  She is doing Marching Band again and wakes up at 5:30 in the morning every other day to go to marching band practice.
Karissa is also in Driver's Ed.  So she'll get to learn to drive!

This is Jacob's first year at the Junior High as a 7th grader! He is taking BAND AND ORCHESTRA this year, playing the Trombone and the Cello.  He's enjoying both!

Kelsi is in 9th grade...and really enjoys playing violin in the Advanced Orchestra this year.  She's also become our latest chef...fixing all sorts of yummy treats and snacks.

Sam started at a new school this year, a charter school in our area:  Renaissance Academy.  He's very excited about it and enjoys going there.

And I'm back into teaching Preschool...I have 2 classes this year:  MWF morning and T-TH afternoon.  So I go 1/2 days every day, which I feel like will be a GREAT schedule.

Even Bryan is starting something new at work...he is at a new position where he manages the Church services at the prison...sounds like it will be a GOOD thing.

ANOTHER PUPPY ADVENTURE

Karissa and Kelsi were at girls camp all week. While they were gone, we had
ANOTHER PUPPY ADVENTURE.
One of our sweet puppies almost died..really, almost died.  It was sad and scary.
It was SO HOT last Wednesday...103 degrees!
The puppy got heat stroke BAD!
Sam helped out by watching Tink in the backyard and Bryan and I and Jacob nursed the puppy back to health (thank goodness for Bryan, he got us going)....
...ice cubes, cold rags, cold running water, homemade pedialyte...
...and most importantly PRAYER.
Jacob, Sam and Bryan and I all prayed for this puppy to live.  I knew that if Heavenly Father wanted the puppy to live that He could put life back into this puppy, and our prayer was answered...the puppy lived! We are very grateful.  The Lord does answer prayers. The puppy is doing amazingly well.  It's hard to believe it's the same puppy.  We had to also help one of the other puppies (not as bad as the first one)....and he recovered as well.  Wednesday night we brought all the puppies and Tink into the garage with fans to keep them cool.  They look better every day! :)

Bryan and Jacob left early this morning for a camp out...3 miles hiking with backpacks and then camping overnight.

Sam is getting ready to start at Renaissance.  I met with the principal today and she was good to talk to and sounds like they have a good special ed program.  Sam gets to meet her and take a tour of the school this Tues :)

I start preschool meetings next week...so summer is just about over for me!  Next week is packed!  But it will be nice to get back into the routine of school...a season for everything...nice that we have school time and summer time :)

PUPPIES!!!!

So a dog having puppies is most definitely a much bigger deal than a rabbit having baby bunnies.
Today has been a whirlwind of emotions for me.
Tink had her puppies...the first one around 8:30am this morning....then we waited and waited and waited, but no more puppies were coming....so I called a couple vets, not good news we're hearing from them..."get her to an emergency hospital" they were saying....tried calling Bryan and the one day that no one could find him at work would, of course, be today....called another vet, who said to give it 45 more minutes....tried calling Bryan again...
Just when we were ready to pack up Tink and go to the vet....over 2 hours later... another puppy came :)  Tink looking like a very proud mother.  And we finally make contact with Bryan at work :)
Said a prayer...and waited for more puppies....another puppy was born about every 45 minutes...making a total of 5 puppies.

Then nothing....except for more waiting....still no more puppies...1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours...we're still expecting 5-7 more puppies...but nothing :(  nothing but stress that is.
so now I'm freaking out, Bryan's still at work...but at least now I can talk to him on the phone
We say another prayer.  Then we call another vet...who says it's an emergency, bring her in.
We feel the only choice is to bring her in...and we have to hurry...

So, the puppies go in a box, with a towel wrapped around them...Tink is freaking out....I'm freaking out.  But that was the easy part 'cause now we have to get Tink into the van, which by the way I never would have thought I would be doing, Tink in our van???  But Tink is refusing to leave her dog house...."Where are her puppies?" she's thinking, poor mother :(
We finally get the doggy treats out and coax Tink over to the van...she hops up in one door, only to hop right out through the other door. Someone should have been video taping...I'm sure we were quite a sight to see.
After lots of running back to her dog house and us coaxing her back to the van...back and forth, back and forth...Finally we get Tink into the van (thanks to Sam and doggy treats)....and we show Tink her puppies.

Kelsi is holding puppies, Jacob and Sam are trying to keep Tink in the back seat by them.  Karissa is dizzy and asking to stay home, but I needed her, she had to come.  And we're all sweating because I don't dare turn on the AC because they said the puppies need to stay warm.
I'm literally holding back tears wondering what in the world I'm doing as Tink paces back and forth in our van and I hear 5 yelping puppies, which Kelsi is striving to comfort.

But, nonetheless, we make it to the Vet, praying the whole way there.
The Vet checks Tink...
The Vet says he doesn't feel anymore puppies, her temperature is fine...she looks healthy and fine....we just have 5 puppies instead of 12 puppies, and we really thought there were more puppies coming, and if there had been more puppies, Tink would have been having a C-section. So I'm very grateful we didn't have to do that.

So, all is well, We pay the vet, or sort of pay the vet because I lost my credit card yesterday and left my other credit card in my swimming pants this morning and all I have with me is checks, which they don't take, so we leave a check for them, which we will trade for payment with my credit card on Friday when we bring the puppies back to get "du-clawed"

And so now we take Tink and 5 really yelping, really hungry puppies home.  Tink is happy to be home, which I'm thinking all the while she did so so good, Tink was actually quite amazing.  We put Tink in her house with her puppies and I sit there and watch her for a while 'cause I feel so bad for putting her through all that, but also so glad everything was OK.  She just smiles at me, like a proud mother; taking care of her puppies like a good mother; happy like the loyal, loving dog that she is.

Things I've learned the past 5 months:

*It's always nice to receive any sort of 'pick me up' from someone :)

*I greatly empathize with single and working mothers...I don't know how they do what they do. May God Bless them.

*Never judge another 'til you've walked in their footsteps.

*Serving others always helps you feel better.

*Prayer...so simple, yet so powerful.

*When I ask someone how they are doing, I will sincerely try to listen to how they're doing and if I feel they need to talk, I will take the time to listen.

*God does not 'over-program' us--He only gives us what He knows we can handle...although he will definitely push us, challenge us, teach us, and humble us.

*Money...really is not the most important thing, although it does provide necessary services.

*"Let me know if you need any help"...a phrase I hope I never say to anyone.  If I feel to say those words, then I ought to REALLY help, think and find something I can do for them, and simply DO IT! Really help them, not just say I'm willing to.

Finding Strength

When in situations of stress we wonder if there is any more in us to give, we can be comforted to know that God, who knows our capacity perfectly, placed us here to succeed.
No one was foreordained to fail or to be wicked. When we have been weighed and found wanting, let us remember that we were measured before and we were found equal to our tasks; and, therefore, let us continue, but with a more determined discipleship. When we feel overwhelmed, let us recall the assurance that God will not overprogram us; he will not
press upon us more than we can bear (D&C 50:40).

Surviving...

We just dropped the van off at the car shop tonight--it needs a new transmission :/
We're grateful it's lasted the past 9 years and decided to get it fixed and hope it will give us a few more good years, seeing how we really can't afford any other option...we can hardly afford the new transmission...such is life.  (We're grateful Grandma Blake is letting us borrow her car for a few days!)

Sam is doing well at his school...they've been going to to the park (across from his school) on some of the nice weather days...Sam really likes that.

Karissa is rather under the weather...allergies hit her pretty hard...at a busy time of year!

Kelsi is doing a  bake sale with her friend for a project at school to help children in Africa.

Jacob and I ended up at Lagoon last Saturday...for Nova Lagoon Day...we had heard that they weren't going to give them Nova Lagoon passes this year...then UNEXPECTEDLY, Jacob came home Fri. after school w/his Nova lagoon pass SO EXCITED!  I didn't have the heart to tell him we couldn't go...so we juggled things and figured it out.  Jacob and I had a great fun time...we both like the white roller coaster ride the best!

Bryan was transferred to a new part of the prison....not a promotion...just different position...but it will be a blessing because he is now with a captain who is L.D.S. and has clean language.

I'm surviving day by day...I feel like I'm driving home at the end of a long road trip...when the last 30 minutes are the hardest to stay awake...that's where I'm at....this last month feels like the hardest to stay "awake".
